Description
Chemical engineers use mathematics, chemistry, and physics to solve problems. They design equipment and find ways to make chemicals. They work in factories to test the way these chemicals are made and oversee the process. Chemical engineers can also work in electronics or aircraft manufacturing. Some work to find ways to control pollution.
Working Conditions
Chemical engineers work in laboratories, factories, or testing sites. Some chemical engineers travel to factories or sites.
Salary
Most chemical engineers earned between $49,000 and $81,000 per year.
Helpful Skills and Subjects to Study
Important classes are mathematics (including algebra, geometry, trigonometry and calculus), English, chemistry, biology, physics, social studies and computers.
Related Jobs
There are many types of engineers. Some are mechanical electrical, aerospace, civil and nuclear. Other workers who use scientific and mathematical principles include scientists, mathematicians, computer systems analysts and architects.
Education & Training
A bachelor's degree is required for entry-level jobs. Many people have graduate degrees.
